Wyndham finds its Annies

After an extensive audition process that drew more than 60 young performers from across Melbourne’s west, Wyndham Cultural Centre has finally found the stars to lead its upcoming production of Annie the Musical.

Eleven-year-old Victoria Glenn and 13-year-old Emma Curtis have been selected to share the coveted title role, which will take to the stage in January. The pair stood out among an extraordinary field of talented young performers who competed for the opportunity to play one of musical theatre’s most iconic characters.

Director Sam Siddiqui praised the calibre of talent on display during the selection process.

“Finding the performers who would lead the production was one of the most significant decisions of the casting process,“ he said.

“Annie is such an iconic role and we knew there would be an enormous amount of interest, but the number and standard of young performers who came through the auditions was extraordinary.“

The production will feature a full company of young and adult performers, including a troupe of orphans who will bring classic numbers such as It’s the Hard Knock Life to life on stage. PerformX Productions is presenting the musical in association with the Werribee Concert Band, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and will provide live orchestral accompaniment.

The beloved musical follows young Annie as she escapes the Municipal Girls’ Orphanage and unexpectedly finds herself living in the home of billionaire Oliver Warbucks during Depression-era New York.

Annie the Musical will be performed at Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177 Watton Street, Werribee, from January 21 to 24, 2027.
